on another coincidental similarity to Halo Infinite, revert to the Prime 1 design for Samus please! It can be tweaked a bit, maybe find some way of making it so her arms don't have to be massively dislocated from her shoulders for it to work, but get back to it. I doubt we'll be dissapointed in terms of spectacle simply because Retro has so much more technology to play with, so there's no need to worry regardless. Think Halo 1 (seems like 343 Industries has the right idea with Halo Infinite taking this approach). For this particular game I think a Prime 1-like setting would be ideal, an Earth-like world that holds deeper mysteries. And it's not like Prime's art direction was unambitious in the slightest, I just think that cohesion and believability should be the biggest priorities. Crazier things can happen once we've had a success and reestablished a baseline. Also, since this game represents a new start for the franchise I think it really needs to stand on solid ground. It's not that I didn't appreciate Retro's wilder flights of sci-fi fancy, I just think that immersion should be the first priority, and believing in the setting is core to creating that.

Not being incredibly alien lent weight to the setting and added to its cohesion. For me a huge part of Prime's appeal was how its setting was unfamiliar but believable. In terms of art direction, I'm always surprised when I see Prime's environments described as generic. Be technically impressive with excellent performance. Have Kenji Yamamoto composing (since he worked on Samus Returns I'd say that's a given). Text logs can do the heavy lifting, we don't really need dialogue or supporting characters, though they're not necessarily all that bad if handled well. Keep the narrative light, focus on isolation, mystery and awe. Be another soft reboot with few narrative ties to prior games. Like lots of others are saying, take inspiration from the first game more than any other. I have a feeling Prime 2 will be the one they look at the least though.

Again, Prime 2 had a nice balance for FF nonsense that was still told in a muted way, compared to the tonal fuckery that was Prime 3. I know Tanabe has a real boner for these, but maybe someone manages to reign him in. Please for the love of god, keep the Federation Force and Sylux in the background. What they shouldn't do: Multiple planets sucked for exploration, I'm sure they can create varied biomes without sacrificing that. I personally wouldn't mind the other controls, but man will a lot of people be turned off if they can only play that way. To succeed they also need to go with twin stick controls. (Prime 2 is the best entry, deal with it.) Prime 3 I guess the varied locations and uh.yeah.

Prime 1 for some of its leveldesign, Prime 2 for its crazy dense atmosphere, new alien life, difficulty and boss designs. Look at what each entry did best and iterate on it.

Update the combat so it isn't just strafing for days. Have the game take place on a more alien planet like 2's rather than 1's. The OST is of utmost importance with this series' atmosphere, I really hope they get the original composer back. A huge part of that is also the insanely detailed geometry these games had back then. I don't want this to look dated the day it launches, and the trilogy with a resolution bump looks still pretty good to this day. Get an updated iteration of the almost timeless artstyle of the original.
